What's on Your June 2024 Reading List?

It's a new month, I have another list...

May To Be Read Books

The Books I've Shortlisted for My June Reading 2024

I read some really amazing books in May, I'll be dropping thoughts in another post but I had a really good time reading these last few weeks.

June is my birthday month! We are currently in the process of upgrading my bedroom furniture and creating a gaming room in the spare room, so I'm still hoping to have plenty of time to spend with my books.

So here is what I've picked out for my June reading in 2024.

The Library Book

Black Heat - Bex Hogan

This was one of those "ooh, that cover looks pretty" book choice moments that I picked up at my local library.

"Marzal - an exiled daughter with a plan for her return.

Rayn - a rebel blacksmith with a blade of blood.

Elena - a gentle midwife with a fiercely protected secret.

Each young woman wants peace for their country, but in times of war, not everyone fights by the same rules. As their countries burn around them, and the stakes of victory rise, each woman will have to decide how far she is willing to go for peace.

But the desire for revenge also burns deep...."

Borrowed Audio Book for the Month

The Luminaries - Susan Dennard

My current loan from the Borrowbox App. Check out your local library to see if they are using this, it's great for eBooks and Audio Books too!

"Hemlock Falls isn't like other towns. You won't find it on a map, your phone won't work here, and the forest outside town might just kill you…

Winnie Wednesday wants nothing more than to join the Luminaries, the ancient order that protects Winnie's town—and the rest of humanity—from the monsters and nightmares that rise in the forest of Hemlock Falls every night. Ever since her father was exposed as a witch and a traitor, Winnie and her family have been shunned. But on her sixteenth birthday, she can take the deadly Luminary hunter trials and prove herself true and loyal—and restore her family's good name. Or die trying."

Borrowed eBook For The Month

Havenfall - Sara Holland

I've also got this book from the Borrowbox App, and I've repurposed an old tablet as my dedicated library e-reader!

"Hidden deep in the mountains of Colorado lies the Inn at Havenfall, a sanctuary that connects ancient worlds--each with their own magic--together. For generations, the inn has protected all who seek refuge within its walls, and any who disrupt the peace can never return.

For Maddie Morrow, summers at the inn are more than a chance to experience this magic first-hand. Havenfall is an escape from reality, where her mother sits on death row accused of murdering Maddie's brother. It's where Maddie fell in love with handsome Fiorden soldier Brekken. And it's where one day she hopes to inherit the role of Innkeeper from her beloved uncle.

But this summer, the impossible happens--a dead body is found, shattering everything the inn stands for. With Brekken missing, her uncle gravely injured, and a dangerous creature on the loose, Maddie suddenly finds herself responsible for the safety of everyone in Havenfall. She'll do anything to uncover the truth, even if it means working together with an alluring new staffer Taya, who seems to know more than she's letting on. As dark secrets are revealed about the inn itself, one thing becomes clear to Maddie--no one can be trusted, and no one is safe . . ."

Our Book Club Pick for the Month

The Hurricane Wars - Thea Guanzon

Our Fantasy Book Club pick for June has us diving into The Hurricane Wars, and I've been looking forward to this one for a while.

"All Talasyn has ever known are the Hurricane Wars. An orphan of the struggle, she uses the power of light to fight for her people against the Night Empire.

All Alaric has ever known is darkness. The son of the Night Emperor and their deadliest weapon, he wields terrifying shadow magic to crush the rebellion.

Then he sees Talasyn, his sworn enemy burning bright across the battlefield. The moment they clash their lives are changed forever.

Now a greater threat is rising and only they can stop it.

The coming storm threatens to destroy everything. If they don’t destroy each other first . . ."

My Audible Listen

Crown of Midnight - Sarah J Mass

I read Throne of Glass last month and really enjoyed it so I'm going to be continuing with the series this month.

"Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become the King's Champion. But she is far from loyal to the crown. Though she goes to great lengths to hide her secret, her deadly charade becomes more difficult when she realises she is not the only one seeking justice. Her search for answers ensnares those closest to her, and no one is safe from suspicion - not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a princess with a rebel heart.

Then, one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie ... and what she is willing to fight for."

My Kindle Read

The Creeper - A M Shine

We recently read The Watchers in book club and we all really loved it, and one of our members is patiently waiting for someone else to read this so we can discuss... so here I am.

"Renowned academic Dr Sparling seeks help with his project on a remote Irish village. Historical researchers Ben and Chloe are thrilled to be chosen – until they arrive.

The village is isolated and forgotten. There is no record of its history, its stories. There is no friendliness from the locals, only wary looks and whispers. The villagers lock down their homes at sundown.

It seems a nameless fear stalks the streets, but nobody will talk – nobody except one little girl. Her words strike dread into the hearts of the newcomers. Three times you see him. Each night he comes closer...

That night, Ben and Chloe see a sinister figure watching them. He is the Creeper. He is the nameless fear in the night. Stories keep him alive. And nothing will keep him away..."

My Re-Read

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - J K Rowling

Because there are always going to be books that leak into your soul and you're going to read them over and over... The Harry Potter series will always be on my re-read lists... and we try again for this month!

"For twelve long years, the dread fortress of Azkaban held an infamous prisoner named Sirius Black. Convicted of killing thirteen people with a single curse, he was said to be the heir apparent to the Dark Lord, Voldemort.

Now he has escaped, leaving only two clues as to where he might be headed: Harry Potter's defeat of You-Know-Who was Black's downfall as well. And the Azkban guards heard Black muttering in his sleep, "He's at Hogwarts...he's at Hogwarts."

Harry Potter isn't safe, not even within the walls of his magical school, surrounded by his friends. Because on top of it all, there may well be a traitor in their midst."

Finally - The Work Reads

Lunar Living - Kirsty Gallagher

I always have a couple of books on my list to help me dive deeper into topics that I'm working with or that I'm making content about. Here are this months books!

"Are there certain days when you feel overly emotional for no apparent reason? Do you have days when you feel exhausted, close to burn out and like you want to hide away from the world?
