What's on Your July 2024 Reading List?

It's a new month, I have another list...

July To Be Read Books

The Books I've Shortlisted for My July Reading 2024

When I've been reflecting on the last few weeks, I can’t help but smile at the memories June has gifted me. The days grew longer, and the warm embrace of summer finally arrived and invited me to step outside and bask in the sun. There's something truly magical about finding a cosy spot in my garden, feeling the gentle breeze on my skin, and getting lost in the pages of a good book. June was the perfect month to indulge in this simple pleasure, and I found myself savouring every moment spent outdoors with my books.

But June wasn't just about quiet moments in the sun; it was also a time for excitement and adventure. One of the highlights of my month was exploring various escape rooms with my sisters. Each experience was so much fun, filled with puzzles, riddles, and the adrenaline rush of racing against the clock.

June also marked a personal milestone – my birthday. This year, we stuffed our faces at an all you can eat and I've been gifted some of the most thoughtful presents, it was wonderfully slow and restful.

With such a fulfilling and joyful June, I can't wait to dive into July, armed with a new list of books to read and experiences to embrace. Here's a glimpse into the literary adventures I'm looking forward for my July reading in 2024.

The Library Book

Legendary - Stephanie Garber

I'm finally continuing with the Caraval series this month, I'm actually really looking forward to dropping back into this world.

"After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn't yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend's true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend's identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the competition once more. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice, but now the game is asking for more. If Tella can't fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend's name, she'll lose everything - maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.

The games have only just begun."

Borrowed Audio Book for the Month

The Wicked King - Holly Black

My current loan from the Borrowbox App. Check out your local library to see if they are using this, it's great for eBooks and Audio Books too!

"I have heard that for mortals, the feeling of falling in love is very like the feeling of fear.

Jude has tricked Cardan onto the throne, binding him to her for a year and a day. But the new High King does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her, even as his fascination with her remains undimmed. Meanwhile, a traitor in the court is scheming against her. Jude must fight for her life and the lives of those she loves, all while battling her own complicated feelings for Cardan. Now a year and a day seems like no time at all . . .."

Borrowed eBook For The Month

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - V E Schwab

I've also got this book from the Borrowbox App, and I've repurposed an old tablet as my dedicated library e-reader!

"When Addie La Rue makes a pact with the devil, she trades her soul for immortality. But there's always a price - the devil takes away her place in the world, cursing her to be forgotten by everyone.

Addie flees her tiny home town in 18th-Century France, beginning a journey that takes her across the world, learning to live a life where no one remembers her and everything she owns is lost and broken. Existing only as a muse for artists throughout history, she learns to fall in love anew every single day.

Her only companion on this journey is her dark devil with hypnotic green eyes, who visits her each year on the anniversary of their deal. Alone in the world, Addie has no choice but to confront him, to understand him, maybe to beat him.

Until one day, in a second hand bookshop in Manhattan, Addie meets someone who remembers her. Suddenly thrust back into a real, normal life, Addie realises she can't escape her fate forever."

Our Book Club Pick for the Month

You Were Born For This - Chani Nicholas

Our Spiritual Book Club pick for July we are checking out our Astrology with You Were Born For This by Chani Nicholas.

"Gone are the whimsical musings of 'On Tuesday you will meet your prince charming' horoscopes - Nicholas is spearheading an empowering new approach. Challenging readers to take control, confront their emotions, supercharge their intentions and use the power of the stars to reach their true potential.

In an era when growing numbers of people are feeling a sense of meaninglessness and a desire to learn more about themselves, You Were Born for This teaches you how to harness the zodiac to become in tune with yourself and able to contextualise in an overwhelming world of confusing experiences and chaos.

With journal prompts, reflection questions and affirmations personal to your astrological make-up, this book guides you along the path your chart has laid out for you."

My Audible Listen

Heir of Fire - Sarah J Mass

Sticking with my journey through the Throne of Glass series...

"Celaena Sardothien has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak, but now she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth. That truth could change her life - and her future - forever.

Meanwhile, monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. To defeat them, Celaena will need the strength not only to fight the evil that is about to be unleashed but also to harness her inner demons. If she is to win this battle, she must find the courage to face her destiny - and burn brighter than ever before."

My Kindle Read

Glass Sword - Victoria Aveyard

I feel as if this half of the year I am focusing on finishing all the series I started in the first! Including the second book in the Red Queen series.

"If there's one thing Mare Barrow knows, it's that she's different.

Mare's blood is Red - the colour of common folk - but her Silverblood ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court is desperate to control over all else.

Pursued by the vengeful Silver king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other defectors to join the rebellion.

But she is soon led down a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying so hard to defeat."

My Re-Read

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - J K Rowling

Because there are always going to be books that leak into your soul and you're going to read them over and over... The Harry Potter series will always be on my re-read lists... and we try again for this month!

"The Triwizard Tournament is to be held at Hogwarts. Only wizards who are over seventeen are allowed to enter - but that doesn't stop Harry dreaming that he will win the competition. Then at Hallowe'en, when the Goblet of Fire makes its selection, Harry is amazed to find his name is one of those that the magical cup picks out. He will face death-defying tasks, dragons and Dark wizards, but with the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, he might just make it through - alive!"

Finally - The Work Reads

Zodiac Signs - Cheryl Leonard

I always have a couple of books on my list to help me dive deeper into topics that I'm working with or that I'm making content about. Here are this months books!

"Ancient astronomers studied the sun, moon, stars, and the planets in the vastness of the universe. Astrologers theorized that the movements and rotations of these heavenly bodies and constellations were an influential factor in predicting events and human behavioral traits. Thus, the horoscope charts were designed based upon the premise of timing of a person’s birth, date and location. This book is an introduction into the zodiac signs, their significance and meanings, elements and symbolism. It includes unique personality guides for each sign, detailing characteristic traits, love, relationships and compatibility, professions, success, and special gifts. Understanding ourselves and others, leads to a more harmonious and peaceful world.

"

Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha - Swami Satyanada Saraswati

"Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha is recognized internationally as one of the most systematic yoga manuals available today. Since its first publication by the Bihar School of Yoga in 1969, it has been reprinted 21 times and translated into many languages. It is the main reference text used by yoga teachers and students of BIHAR YOGA® within the International Yoga Fellowship Movement, and many other traditions as well.

This comprehensive text provides clear illustrations, step by step directions and details of chakra awareness. It guides the practitioner or teacher from the simplest to the most advanced practices of the hatha yoga system. This book successfully brings the exposition of yoga practices to the standard of a university text."

Are you adding any of these books to your TBR?
