Books I Read in June 2024: My Ratings and Reviews

What I read and which was my favourite read of June?

What I Read in June 2024

June was a month of sunshine, adventures, and celebrations. I relished the warmth of summer, spending serene afternoons reading in the garden. Had some Escape Room adventures with my sisters which added excitement to my days, as we bonded over puzzles and riddles. Celebrating my birthday was a perfect blend of relaxation and joy, surrounded by loved ones and reflecting on the past year. With such fulfilling experiences in June, I can't wait to show you which books I read in June 2024!

I rate my books from 1-5 and my "ratings" look like this...

5 - Absolutely Obsessed - Reserved for the books I'm adding to my will re-read forever list

4 - Loved it!

3 - Really enjoyed it

2 - Meh, was ok I guess

1 - No - Only reserved for books I couldn't finish

Always remember that ratings are just my personal opinion and have no reflection on the actual book. Let's go!

The Books I Read in June 2024

The Creeper - A M Shine

My Rating - 3

The idea of the creeper is incredibly unnerving, and really speaks to the very real life fear I have of looking out the window and seeing someone just standing still and staring at me! Definitely gave me Slenderman vibes there for a while too.

The main character annoyed me a little bit, making some seriously rookie mistakes for someone in his situation. Then there's the ending of the story, which ended up being the one "twist" in horror that really just makes me roll my eyes... it's not that it's necessarily bad, it just feels like a huge let down at the end of all that really amazing build up.

Favourite Quote

“The best storytellers worked the shadows when they spoke. And the night was never so dark than when they let that silence linger, inviting all ears to lean in that bit closer.”

Lunar Living - Kirsty Gallagher

My Rating - 3

This is a really great book for getting into the phases of the moon and how the moon moves through the Zodiac. It's definitely one I will be referring back to time and time again.

Favourite Quotes

"You can't get to your future while your past is still present"

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

My Rating - 5

I remember the first time I read this book, I could not put it down. I think this is when the Harry Potter series goes from great to amazing. I loved the film adaptation but I think this is the read that makes you really understand just how much the films are missing, it's just got so much back story and character development and that was what pulled me into this world all those years ago.

Favourite Quote

“I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.”

Black Heat - Bex Hogan

My Rating - 3

This story spoke to all of my patriarchal anger! The story is told from the perspectives of three different women who all have different reasons for getting themselves involved in the war that is destroying homes and lives all around them.

It was interesting to see how their stories intertwined and came together.

I really didn't see the ending coming at all, and was such a shock!

Favourite Quote

“Men underestimate us at their peril, do they not?”

The Luminaries - Susan Dennard

My Rating - 4

I have so many questions!

The Luminaries are an ancient society that protect the town of Hemlock Falls from the nightmares that rise in the forest every night.

After Winnie's Dad is found out to be a traitor to the society, the family is outcast and her only way back in is to take the Luminary hunter trials which are Hunger Games or Fourth Wing kind of deadly.

I can not wait to get the second book in this series as I have many, many questions and am suspicious of literally EVERYONE! I haven't stopped thinking about this book since I finished it!

Favourite Quote

“That’s why we’re called the Luminaries, we are lanterns the forest can never snuff out.”

The Hurricane Wars - Thea Guanzon

My Rating - 3

Going into this book feels a little overwhelming, there's a lot of world building and names to get your head around as we enter The Hurricane Wars as the war is coming to an end.

I was a little disappointed in the sense that all the "action" of this story seems to be waiting for the second book, this feels like a very long scene setting for the real threat that is still months away at the end. I was also kind of waiting for a bit of a cliff-hanger at the end, to get me excited for the next book, but that didn't happen either.

That said, I'm still intrigued enough that I'll probably pick up the next book after it releases, I do want to know what's going to happen with the magic system and the rebels.

Favourite Quote

“You've been fighting all your life, Your instinct is to strike first, before anyone can hurt you. But, sometimes it's the blow the moulds us. Taking it. Letting it ring against our defences, until we are assured in the the knowledge that, when it's over, we will still be standing.”

The Whistling - Rebecca Netley

My Rating - 4

This was so creepy, I felt like I was walking the corridors of that house while I was reading this.

I loved that it kept me guessing right until those last few chapters as to what was happening and who was involved. I'm looking forward to reading other stories by Rebecca.

Favourite Quote

“The world gives birth to both the viper and the lamb, and there are churches for each.”

Havenfall - Sara Holland

My Rating - 4

This was so good, Maddie is the heir to the Havenfall Inn which is a verge point for doors to alternate worlds, but a Summer of fun soon turns into chaos after a being from behind one of the closed doors makes its way through.

This story had me guessing all the way through, I love the idea of a meeting point between realms and the people that keep it safe and secrets that those people keep.

I will definitely be getting the next book as soon as I can!

Favourite Quote

"I just know that if a strange man gets you in his basement, you might as well kiss the world goodbye"

Zodiac Signs - Cheryl Leonard

My Rating - 2

This is great if you're looking for a short overview of the Zodiac Signs.
