Books I Read in July 2024: My Ratings and Reviews

What I read and which was my favourite read of July?

What I Read in July 2024

I had such a slow month of reading in July, we got massively distracted by redecorating the living room that not much else got done! I also continued with the Red Queen series this month, which took me days and days to read as the book was so slow! That being said... I found my first 5 star reads of the year which I am super pleased about, so maybe it's kind of rounded itself out. Shall we take a look at the books I read in July 2024?

I rate my books from 1-5 and my "ratings" look like this...

5 - Absolutely Obsessed - Reserved for the books I'm adding to my will re-read forever list

4 - Loved it!

3 - Really enjoyed it

2 - Meh, was ok I guess

1 - No - Only reserved for books I couldn't finish

Always remember that ratings are just my personal opinion and have no reflection on the actual book. Let's go!

The Books I Read in July 2024

One Dark Window - Rachel Gillig

My Rating - 5!

My first 5 star read of the year, oh my days is this good!

I adored the magic system, the mist... the cards, the whole dark vibe is incredibly fascinating. I've listened to this book over a couple of days and have not been able to stop thinking about it. I need to get my hands on the second book quickly.

I can't say enough good about this book, other than go read it!

Favourite Quote

“There once was a girl clever and good, who tarried in shadow in the depths of the wood. There also was a king - a shepherd by his crook, who reigned over magic and wrote the old book. The two were together, so the two were the same...The girl, the King...and the monster they became.”

Crown of Midnight - Sarah J Mass

My Rating - 5

Ok, I liked Throne of Glass... I enjoyed it... but this, this is where I can feel the obsession for the series begin to grow because I have not stopped thinking about that ending since I finished reading it. I'm invested in discovering what is happening right alongside Celaena. I feel her character is far more developed in this book and things that didn't sit right with me from the first have been put in their place! Throne of Glass series... I'm all in.

There are worse things out there to face!... No, there aren't," she said. "Because I'm here now.”

Glass Sword - Victoria Aveyard

My Rating - 3

I really liked Red Queen, but I felt this book dragged a little and was slightly repetitive. I'm finding that it's making me not really like Mare anymore, her decisions and thought process at time don't seem to make any sense and she's incredibly contradictory.

That being said, I'm still going to carry on with the rest of the series, I have questions that I'm hoping that the other books will answer for me...

Favourite Quote

“The thing with heat is, no matter how cold you are, no matter how much you need warmth, it always, eventually, becomes too much.”

Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha - Swami Satyananda Saraswati

My Rating - 3

There's a lot of really good information in this book and has one of the better breakdowns of poses that I've seen. It's definitely one I'll refer back to when I'm planning classes and 121's.

Favourite Quote

“The mind & body are not separate entities. The gross form of the mind is the body & the subtle form of the body is the mind."

You Were Born For This - Chani Nicholas

My Rating - 3

I did enjoy this book and think it's a great starting point to not only understanding your own astrology, but also why it's a great thing to understand and know about yourself.

Favourite Quote

“Being witnessed is essential to our humanity, our growth, and our ability to move past the trauma that we have survived. If astrology does its job, it offers a mirror in which we see both our best selves and our growth edges.”
